MAGIC BULLET FOR GOUT
There are very few nutrients and herbs that work so well they can almost be called a magic bullet. However, Celery Seed Extract is one of them ... for gout. Gout is a common problem, especially for those on a typical American diet rich in proteins. This has implications for those on a low-carb diet (which has two major strikes against it - look for a future article on this). Protein is a "dirty burning" fuel for the body because it contains nitrogen. This leads to the production of ammonia in the body. Ammonia cannot be tolerated by the body, especially the brain, so it is converted into uric acid. Lots of protein can lead to high levels of uric acid in the blood, and if the levels are high enough, it can actually crystallize. Favored locations for crystallization include joints in the toes, often the big toe (because body temp is lower in the extremities making for easier crystal formation). Unfortunately, the crystal shape is in NEEDLES which lead to serious pain and potential joint damage as they tear and hurt tissue. There are prescription drugs to east the pain, lessen inflammation (steriods), and even lower uric acid in the blood (allopurinol). However, there are occasional bad side effects with some of these drugs (including liver damage), and frankly, they sometimes just don't work so well. To the rescue comes Celery Seed Extract (or Celery Seed) found in many health food stores (such as Vitamin World). Everyone I have "put" on this marvelous solution has come back to report unbelievable, quick, and joyful results. There are no known side effects (it IS a food product), and it is much less expensive than the prescription option (and it seems to work better!)
